#Triadversary

Being in a polyam relationship means you have lots of dates to remember. We’ve never really known when to celebrate our anniversary as a triad since there wasn’t one specific day we happened. Luis and Katie have been together since 2006, Katie and I have been together since 2014, and in 2017 we transitioned from a V-dynamic (where one person [Katie] is romantically involved with 2 partners, but those two partners aren’t romantically involved [Me and Louie]) to a throuple, where we are all involved with each other. We never really knew what date to celebrate for us three though. On March 8, 2019 we publicly spoke our truth, and it’s one of our most memorable moments as a family. We all decided this would be the perfect day to celebrate our triadversary!

Life is always crazy, and in any relationship there is always a cycle of disconnect and reconnection. It happens. This cycle of disconnect was one of our longest ones, and was putting a strain on our relationship. Between Katie traveling, prepping for her Worship Pop-up, work, life, parental duties, being present for friends & family, and ensuring that home doesn’t fall to shambles, we didn’t realize how disconnected we had gotten. We became intentional on spending more time with each other, and it took a good two weeks for us to feel at a better place.

I’m grateful for my soul sister, Solange, because she kindly offered to take Lukas for the night so we could have time together without having to worry about who would tend to Lukas. That Saturday night we slothed on the couch, watched a movie, practiced meditation and breathing exercises, and I even got to do reiki, which is energy work, on Luis! It was such a special and grounding moment for us.

On Sunday we slept in, and then made our way down to La Food Marketa. We waited a bit too long to eat, and Katie got a bit too hangry, but we managed to survive her wrath haha Anyways, if you’re a Baltimore local, this place is a must! Heck, if you’re not a local and are in town, you should also go check this spot out. The food is so deliciously made, and has its own creative spin on cuisine from the Americas. I honestly wish we could have tried every item on the menu that day, but that’s a bit OD right? Whatevs. Don’t judge me.

We started off with pan de queso (cheese bread), nacho tots, and street cauliflower, and that definitely got Katie to a happy state of mind again, but mostly because of her endless mimosas. Honestly, the food made all of us very happy. If you’ve ever had Colombian Pan de Bono, then you’ll LOVE this cheese bread because that’s exactly what it was. Louie and Katie say the nacho tots were cooked to perfection and had a perfectly balanced taste, and the street cauliflower was seasoned so well and wasn’t drowning in mayo like I’ve seen in some other restaurants.

By the time we finished our apps we were ready for our main course. Louie ordered an eggs benny with ham and potatoes, and Katie ordered loaded yucca fries topped with a fried egg and braised pork, which I tasted and was so so so perfectly soft. My mouth is actually watering as I write about it, so that should say something. I ordered avocado toast, which is one of my faves, and an order of scrambled eggs and bacon. Basic, I know, but I was craving it so bad and it was yummy for my tummy.

Post meal nom-noms, we made our way to Whole Foods to pick out a dessert. Many of you know I have a special diet and am restricted to lots of foods because of my thyroid, but given that this was our anniversary, I wanted to enjoy a dessert with my babes’ to commemorate our special day. We picked out an apple crostini, and sadly they weren’t into it, but I think not having processed sugar like that for 2 years made me think it was the absolute best thing ever.

We ended our day at the Cylburn Arboretum, went full model mode, and snapped some photos of ourselves. Luis had the major itis and was over it, but Katie and I were having fun practicing and scouting out some cool spots to take photos in. All in all, it was such a great day together. We laughed, we cried, we reflected on this past year of living and speaking our truth, we ate to our heart’s desire, slothed around, explored, and best of all we reconnected while doing just that.

We became a family in 2014, and last year we shared it with the world. We’ve learned and grown a lot this past year, and neither of us have one single regret about doing what we did. So here’s to many more years of transparent living. Thanks for reading!
